From California to Pennsylvania – Canada to Puerto Rico, this year’s Allen Concrete College (ACC) was truly a widespread success. Contractors and dealers from far and wide - beginner to expert – came together to learn all about placing and finishing concrete, from prep to the time the concrete hits the ground, to the final finishing pass. Tom Leyes, Allen Senior Territory Sales Rep, began the training with the classroom portion of the college where he covered everything from hand tools and riding trowels to slump mix and measuring the flatness of a floor. By the end of the day, the attendees were well informed in “F” numbers, the proper tool selection and the entire process of placing and finishing concrete.
Led by Brandon Bartz, the second day of the course was a time for attendees to put what they learned into practice. Brandon and his team, along with the class attendees, used a wide variety of Allen equipment placing and finishing a 20’ x 40’ concrete slab to expand the Allen parking area. Preparing the site to include proper compaction, and then truss screed, the original product produced by Allen, concrete vibration, hand tools and a range of power trowels, attendees experienced the process first-hand from start to finish and had some fun along the way. Comments from all were exemplary in both knowledge gained and excellent hands-on experience.
Be on the lookout for dates for the 2015 ACC!
